Re-Oaking Palo Alto

Regionally, the decline in deciduous oak species and oak woodlands has become a major conservation concern for the City of Palo Alto. This program will pilot a re­-oaking initiative to increase tree canopy cover in South Palo Alto neighborhoods, including tree plantings in the public right of way, outreach to residents and commercial and institutional landowners and testing assessment methods, all in preparation for a future full deployment in the region. Google’s sponsorship will provide seed funding to test the feasibility of one of the instrumental tools proposed by SFEI to restore landscape resilience.
